The Science Program

The 14 themes encompassed the full breadth of research in geochemistry, its applications, and its impacts on wider society, and under the conference format for 2025, both in-person and remote delegates were able to share their latest research.

Remote presenters uploaded their presentations to the website in advance for viewing online, and remote posters were also printed by the conference and displayed onsite. At the Prague Congress Center, oral sessions took place across 19 rooms each morning and afternoon and were followed by lively poster sessions.

Over 600 participants and organizers took part in pre-conference science workshops at Charles University and the Prague Congress Center. Topics included data analysis, analytical and imaging techniques, geochemical modelling as well as specialized fields in geochemistry.

As always, the program also included five inspiring plenary lectures, as well as award lectures from various society medalists (see the Goldschmidt YouTube channel).

14 themes  | 113 sessions
3672 abstracts

2110 oral presentations

of which 87 remote

1562 poster presentations

of which 129 remote

21 pre-conference science workshops

with 556 attendees

Early Career Scientists

13 early career events

with over 350 registered attendees

224 mentors and 398 mentees

Over 100 grant recipients

A comprehesive Early Career program supported the many students and postdocs at the meeting, featuring hands-on workshops on grant proposal and scientific writing on the Sunday, as well as lunchtime panel-led workshops on career development topics and the ever-popular ‘Meet the Plenary’ lunches.

Now in its 12th year, the Mentor Program was the largest to date, with almost 400 mentees benefiting from the guidance and support of experienced delegates in navigating the conference and developing their networks, skills and careers.

The Goldschmidt Grant Program once again provided crucial support for in-person and remote early career delegates from low- and lower-middle-income countries, through waived registration and abstract fees and travel bursaries to attend in person. Grants for US-based students and postdocs were also awarded through support from US funding agencies.

Socials, Networking, and DEI Events

For in-person delegates, Sunday’s ice-breaker was a first chance for delegates to meet up with familar faces, browse the exhibition and get to know the conference venue. Later in the week, evening events included the Early Career Mixer, where participants enjoyed short boat trips along the Danube as well as music and dancing, and the conference banquet at the Prague’s iconic Municipal House.

A number of events were organized to promote Diversity, Equity and Inclusion awareness and engagement: a chance to Meet the DEI Committees, the Goldschmidt Pride and Allies reception, the lunchtime Hidden Histories workshop, as well as a Theme 14 session featuring presentations and discussions related to “Geochemistry beyond stereotypes”.

Communications and Press Coverage

For the second year running, Goldschmidt TV was broadcast on screens throughout the congress centre and streamed on social media. Through exclusive interviews with leading researchers and society presidents to behind-the-scenes moments and attendee insights, Targeted Film captured the stories, science, and spirit of the geochemistry community.

The seven volunteers of the conference press review team worked with Campus PR in selecting headline-making research for the international press, bringing the science of geochemistry and its direct impact on some of the present challenges to the attention of the wider public. The press releases and a small selection of the news articles issued by various media outlets can be found here.

The Goldschmidt2025 blog team—Bidisha Dey, Sri Budhi Utami, Piyal Halder, Gaurav Kumar, and Siddhant Sharma—shared their first-hand experiences in a fantastic series of posts published daily on the EAG Blogosphere at https://www.eagblog.org/.

All of the above, as well as daily highlights and happenings, were shared throughout the week on the Goldschmidt social media channels.

Finally, conference photographer Gaël Kazaz provided a stunning collection of photographs from the conference in Prague. Browse the photo albums here.

A successful Goldschmidt Conference relies on the time, dedication and enthusuiasm of hundreds of volunteers from across the community, from committees, councils and board members, to the theme chairs, conveners and workshop organizers who together build the science program, the mentors and panellists supporting early career scientists, the press review and conference blogging teams, and the student helper team and their manager, Edoardo Ammannati, who ensure the smooth running of the conference for all delegates and staff onsite.

We are indebted to the many staff and organizations involved: conference logistics company, JPdL, the IT team at Confex and M-Events, Campus PR for managing the press and media, the City of Prague and the Prague City Tourism Office, the staff of the Prague Congress Centre, and the Faculty of Science at Charles University in Prague for hosting the science workshops.
