Gevorg Tepanosyan, CENS, Armenia

Biography

Gevorg Tepanosyan is an environmental geochemist at the Center for Ecological-Noosphere Studies of the National Academy of Sciences (CENS), Armenia. He obtained his PhD in 2015 and has since continued his scientific journey at CENS, enriching his expertise through collaborations with scientists worldwide and contributing to (inter)national research projects. Currently, Gevorg serves as the Head of the Environmental Geochemistry Department at CENS. His research focuses on the environmental geochemistry of urban, mining, and agricultural areas, with particular emphasis on geochemical characterization, environmental contamination, and health risk assessment of potentially toxic elements. He has employed various analytical techniques (XRF, XRD, SEM-EDS, etc.) for the chemical analysis of environmental samples, and has utilized geospatial mapping, background/baseline estimation, and compositional data analysis to study the geochemical associations of elements under significant anthropogenic pressure.

Motivation for serving the EAG council

I am eager to join the EAG Council to foster global collaboration among scientists, particularly in light of today’s complex geopolitical landscape. This role offers a unique opportunity to strengthen ties across regions, with a special focus on Eastern European neighboring countries. Through my established network spanning universities, research institutions, and geological surveys, I can contribute to expanding the Council’s reach, forging new connections, and promoting the inclusive dissemination of ideas and advancements in geochemistry and related disciplines. My goal is to help ensure that geochemistry continues to evolve as a field that is both scientifically rigorous and socially impactful. By encouraging diverse perspectives and facilitating knowledge exchange, I aim to enhance the discipline’s relevance to society and support a more connected and dynamic scientific community.
