Carla Tiraboschi, University of Perugia, Italy
Biography
Carla Tiraboschi is currently Assistant Professor in experimental petrology at the University of Perugia (Italy). She obtained her PhD in 2015 at the University of Milan (Italy), after joining the University of Milan-Bicocca she eventually moved to the University of Münster (Germany) from 2018 to 2024. Her primary area of research focuses on volatiles such as H2O and CO2, and their effect on upper mantle dynamics. She has used a variety of experimental approaches, from piston cylinders to hydrothermal diamond anvil cells, to characterize high-pressure fluids and melts, and to assess their ability to mobilize elements at depth. She has developed new experimental and analytical strategies to investigate fluid-saturated systems which she combines with thermodynamic modeling of fluid-rock interaction.
Motivation for serving the EAG council
Serving in the EAG Council would be a great privilege, as I believe the EAG plays a crucial role in fostering a more inclusive and supportive community. Academia is facing significant challenges, particularly for early-career scientists and under-represented groups, who often deal with the instability of short-term contracts and the toll it takes on mental health. While I have been fortunate to benefit from many privileges, I am deeply aware of the persistent biases in our field, not only gender-related but also those affecting other marginalized communities. These disparities in representation, visibility, and opportunity have motivated me to join the EAG’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. I believe my passion for DEI, combined with my experiences, would allow me to make a meaningful contribution to the Council.
