Antje Boetius

Antje Boetius is an internationally outstanding marine microbiologist and geochemist. Her ground-breaking work includes the discovery of syntrophic microorganisms responsible for the anaerobic oxidation of methane in the seabed and the role of biogeochemical processes in the Arctic Ocean for the global carbon cycle and climate development. She is also an outstanding communicator of marine science through radio and television and in general science debates and has strongly contributed to the public awareness of the ocean and its role for our future climate.
