Goldschmidt 2026 highlights online

Goldschmidt 2026 brought together geochemists from around the world for a week of science, networking, and fun! 

Registered delegates have access to all recorded talks and uploaded posters until 15 September.

Videos of the five plenary lectures are available for all to watch on the conference YouTube channel, and you can browse the conference photo albums here.

You can also watch highlights on Goldschmidt TV, a collaboration between the conference and Targeted Film, featuring interviews, reactions from attendees, and short features on five research groups.

Call for 2027 EAG awards: nominations open until 30 October

The EAG bestows several awards and fellowships designed to celebrate scientific excellence across career stages. Nominations are open until 30 October for the following awards:

• H.C. Urey Award: recognises scientists who have made outstanding contributions advancing geochemistry over a career.
• Science Innovation Award: recognises scientists who have recently made a particularly important and innovative breakthrough in geochemistry.
• Houtermans Award: recognises exceptional contributions to geochemistry by an early career scientist < 7 years since their PhD
• Geochemistry Fellows: honours outstanding scientists who have made major contributions to the field. 

2026 Distinguished Lecture Program - latest news

EAG Distinguished Lecturer Liane G. Benning visited institutes in Hungary and Poland this June as part of her 2026 tour. Watch a recording of her lecture "The big melt: how microbes, minerals and ions change our planet today and in future warmer climates" on the EAG YouTube channel, and read this interview with Liane, conducted by the HUN-REN Institute of Earth Physics and Space Science in Sopron, Hungary.

Coming soon on EAG Reactions

The EAG Reactions online webinar series will be back this autumn to explore the topic of Human Impacts in Coastal Environments. 

Coastal ecosystems are under growing pressure from human activity, from food and energy production to nutrient runoff and climate change. Emil De Borger (NIOZ) and Caroline Slomp (Radboud University) will share their work on how these pressures are reshaping coastal biogeochemistry. Their short talks will be followed by an informal discussion on the cumulative impacts facing coastal environments and the strategies being developed to address them.

EAG Student Sponsorship - next deadline 1 September

The EAG Student Sponsorship Program supports onsite participation at events held in Europe, or online participation at events held anywhere in the world. Successful applicants will receive sponsorship of up to 1000 euros to cover registration, abstract fees, and travel expenses where applicable. Applicants may be based in any country.

Early Career Science Ambassador Program - next deadline: 1 October

The Early Career Science Ambassador Program provides funding for postdocs and final stage PhD students based in Europe who wish to attend conferences outside Europe, and to those in any country who plan to attend a virtual or hybrid conference remotely. Supported scientists attending a conference in person will have 50% of their expenses covered by EAG, up to 1500 euros.

Next application deadline: 1 October

J. Lawrence Smith Medal Nomination Solicitation

The J. Lawrence Smith Medal of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) is awarded every three years for recent original and meritorious investigations of meteoric bodies. The award includes a $50,000 prize.

Additional information, including past recipients, eligibility requirements, and more, can be found here.  All nominations must be submitted online by Monday, 5 October 2026. Membership in the NAS is not required of either the nominee or nominators. Nomination restrictions can be found here.

Elements August issue 'Stromatolites and Other Microbialites'

Stromatolites are remarkable bio-mineralizing structures that remain abundant on Earth today. EAGE Short Course: Structural Geology Must Knows, registration 1 September

The Volcanic and Magmatic Studies Group (VMSG), a joint special interest group of the Mineralogical Society of the UK and Ireland and The Geological Society, has the following calls:

• applications for travel funding (up to £750) from PhD researchers to present their work at a (inter)national conference/workshop, carry out fieldwork, or travel to use laboratory facilities in the UK or overseas
• nominations for three awards: the VMSG Award, the Willy Aspinall Prize and Zeiss Postdoctoral Keynote Award.
