Goldschmidt 2026 will take place in Montréal, Canada and online from 12-17 July. See the science programfor the full list of themes and sessions. Discounted rates are available for members of the EAG sojoin or renewyour membership now. Early registration for Goldschmidt 2026 closes 1 June.
Student helpers support delegates and presenters throughout the week. The program offers free registration and the chance to meet others on the diverse, international team. Apply by 31 March.
Designed for first-time conference attendees, students & early career scientists, mentees will be matched one-and-one with an experienced scientist to help them navigate the conference. Application to serve as a mentor/mentee can be completed with your conference registration. The mentor-mentee match will be based on the area of expertise & the participation type (in-person or remote).

9 June - HUN-REN Institute for Earth Physics & Space Science, Sopron, Hungary Lecture 2: The big melt: how microbes, minerals and ions change our planet today and in future warmer climates
Marian Selorm Sapah is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Earth Science, University of Ghana. Her research interests are in the areas of Cosmochemistry, Geochemistry, Geoscience Education and Environmental Geoscience. As part of the EAG-GS Outreach program she will visit institutes in Botswana (19-23 April) and Namibia (23-29 April).
The EAG Student Sponsorship Program supports onsite participation at events held in Europe, or online participation at events held anywhere in the world. Successful applicants will receive sponsorship of up to 1000 euros to cover registration, abstract fees, and travel expenses where applicable. Applicants may be based in any country
Silicified seafloor contribution to TTG formation: insights from zircon O and Si isotopes
Tracing the input of altered seafloor lithologies to primary melts of tonalite-trondhjemite-granodiorite suites (TTGs) is critical for understanding Archean geodynamic processes that transported these lithologies...
Nitrogen isotopic variations in the early Solar System recorded by pallasites
To gain new insights into nitrogen (N) isotopic variations in the early Solar System, N and noble gas (Ne, Ar) isotopes were measured in metal fragments and olivine separates from thirteen pallasites and five IIIAB iron meteor...
[Scientific American] Athletes often have specialized equipment or apparel but curling takes things to another level. Curling rocks—as the round, roughly 40-pound stones are called—only come from two places on the planet: a little island in Scotland...
Humanity heating planet faster than ever before, study finds
[The Guardian] Humanity is heating the planet faster than ever before, a study has found. Climate breakdown is occurring more rapidly with the heating rate almost doubling, according to research that excludes the effect of natural factors behind...
The reason the Middle East has so much oil is the same reason it’s all stuck there now
[Scientific American] A continental collision trapped oil within what is today Iran. The same collision explains why that oil is trapped behind the Strait of Hormuz now. One fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments typically pass through...
Salt of the Earth: Vast Underground Salt Caverns Are Preserving Our History - and Just Might Power Our Future
[Eos] From health spas to film storage, salt mine caverns have been put to use in surprising ways—and they’re now poised to contribute to the generation and storage of clean energy. In spring 2025, torrential rains fell on central Romania’s Harghita...
How oxygen enriched the Earth's atmosphere 2.5 billion years ago [Press Release]
[University of Tuebingen] Cyanobacteria as they still exist today were the first organisms to carry out photosynthesis and release oxygen. Produced in primeval oceans around 2.5 billion years ago, this oxygen accumulated in the Earth's atmosphere on...
87th EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition: early registration 15 March
What role does geochemistry play in advancing low-carbon mineral development and sustainable mining? Contribute to this conversation by joining the EAGE-EAG Technical Community on Geochemistry at the dedicated session 'Geochemistry and low carbon minerals', at the EAGE Annual 2026 (8-11 June, Aberdeen, UK).
Early registration: 15 March - EAG members benefit from member rates
The Mineralogical Society’s 150th Anniversary Meeting: early registration deadline 20 March
In 2026 the Mineralogical Society of the UK and Ireland will celebrate its 150th anniversary, with a special conference at the University of Manchester. The meeting will involve all of the Society’s eight special interest groups and the Mineral Deposits Studies Group. Scientists from all countries are welcome, this will be a fully hybrid conference. Remote attendance by those from low- & middle-income countries will be free of charge.

Nominations for the MinSoc, Eileen Guppy Technician’s Award: deadline 18 April
This is a new award of the Mineralogical Society of the UK & Ireland named in honour of Dr Eileen Mary Guppy (1903–1980), a geologist, petrologist & analytical chemist.
The advanced practical and technical knowledge of technicians and experimental officers is an asset to every university and research institute. To celebrate and create recognition of their contributions we are delighted to introduce the first award that specifically focusses on the contributions of technicians.
