A free ticket for the Early Career Mixer will be offered to each of our bloggers. Contact the EAG Office to find out more.
Warning: accommodation scam!
The conference does NOT use any travel agency, so if you are contacted by an organisation claiming an affiliation with the conference, be careful as that this is a scam. Delegates should book their accommodation directly themselves. See Venue & Travel for more information.
New Geochemical Perspectives 'The Evolution of Atmospheric Composition and Climate: Why Earth is a Habitable Planet'
This the 30th Geochemical Perspectives issue, by James Kasting covers the long-term evolution of Earth’s atmosphere and climate, with a particular focus on the rise of O2 and the faint young Sun problem. What we think we understand about Earth’s atmosphere/climate history is then used as a guide to speculate on whether Earth-like planets might exist around other nearby stars.
Geochemical Perspectives is an open access community journal published by the European Association of Geochemistry. EAG members who opted to receive a print copy will receive it soon.
Expression of support for fellow American Scientific Societies
TheEuropean Geosciences Union has issued a support statement for our fellow American scientific societies, and the European Association of Geochemistry has endorsed it.

From Rocks to Revelations: EAG sponsored student Cendi Dana, research visit to ETH Zurich
[by Cendi Dana] Nestled in the heart of Switzerland, ETH Zurich stands as a global leader in Earth Sciences. From March 10th to 14th, 2025 I had the privilege of visiting this renowned institution to conduct high-precision U-Pb geochronology analysis on...
Formation of abnormally high density H2S fluid in sedimentary basins
Mississippi Valley-type (MVT) deposits serve as important sources of lead-zinc metals, requiring abundant reduced sulfur for their formation. High density H2S fluids greatly influence the efficiency and scale of...
Lengthening of biogeochemical processes during winter in degraded permafrost soils
The consequences of permafrost thaw for organic carbon release are mainly studied in summer, considering the frozen soil is inert in winter. Here, we show that biogeochemical processes also occur during early winter...
The Martian isotopic record displays a dichotomy in volatile compositions. Interior volatiles from the mantle record a chondritic heritage (e.g., H, N, Kr, Xe) whereas the atmospheric reservoir of Kr and Xe – which...
Ageing of organic materials at the surface of Mars: A Raman study aboard Perseverance
Determining the neon isotope composition of the Earth’s mantle is key to unravelling how light noble gases became part of the primordial Earth. However, accurately measuring neon abundance and isotopic...
Earth’s Lost Timeline: Rusty Rocks Reveal Billion-Year-Old Secrets
[SciTechDaily] Researchers at Utah State University have developed a new forensic tool to determine the timing of geochemical oxidation reactions in iron oxide minerals within the Earth’s crust. This tool could help scientists better understand....
Nasa rover discovers largest organic compounds yet found on Mars
[The Guardian] Nasa’s Curiosity rover has found the largest organic compounds ever seen on Mars, raising tantalising questions about whether life emerged on the red planet billions of years ago. The compounds were detected in a 3.7bn-year-...
How a 'mudball' meteorite survived space to land in the jungles of Cetral America
[Space.com] The pieces of a meteorite that fell in Costa Rica in 2019 are so unusual that scientists believe it had moved through space relatively unscathed — that is, until it encountered our planet. This is in stark contrast to other typical meteorites that...
Early Earth's first crust composition discovery rewrites geological timeline
[Phys.org] Researchers have made a new discovery that changes our understanding of Earth's early geological history, challenging beliefs about how our continents formed and when plate tectonics began. A study published in Nature reveals...
Scientists drilled to the bottom of the Great Blue Hole and uncovered worrying trend
[Unilad] Experts have drilled to the bottom of the Belize Great Blue Hole, discovering an extremely ‘concerning’ tropical weather trend. The Great Blue Hole is a large marine sinkhole situated around 43 miles from Belize City....
Earth's storage of water in soil, lakes and rivers is dwindling. And it's especially bad for farming
[Phys.org] University of Melbourne hydrology professor D. Ryu and his collaborator K-W Seo were on a train when they found something startling.....it suggested a "remarkable" amount of Earth's water stored on land had been depleted...
What caused Myanmar and Thailand earthquake and how big was it?
