Preparations for the 27th Goldschmidt conference, which will be held in Paris on the August 13-18, are now well underway and we are pleased to be able to open for abstract submission and registration. Note that members of the societies listed at EAG Partnerships can register at member rate (early member rates: 490 Euros / Students 295 Euros).

Goldschmidt2017 is looking for student helpers so if your spoken English is excellent you can apply for 4 or 6 days volunteering. Check the Student Helpers page for information and to apply.

 Bernard Marty starts as EAG President

Bernard Marty starts as EAG President

Following his mandate as Vice-President, Bernard Marty now starts as EAG President for 2017-2018. Bernard is Professor of geochemistry at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Géologie, Université de Lorraine, and researcher at the Centre de Recherches Pétrographiques et Géochimiques), Nancy, France. Bernard has been involved with EAG for over 8 years and was Chair of the Goldschmidt Conference in 2011.

The EAG also welcomes Sigurður Gíslason as Vice-President, Helen Williams as Goldschmidt Officer, as well as Rizlan Bernier-Latmani, Klaus Mezger, Carsten Münker and Emily Pope as Councillors.

The EAG also wishes to thank outgoing councillor Ruben Kretzschmar, as well as outgoing former Presidents Chris Ballentine and Eric Oelkers for their exceptional dedication as well as their lasting and substantive contributions.

We are proud to announce the 2017 EAG Medallists; they will be presented at the Goldschmidt2017 conference in Paris.

bulletEiji Ohtani (Tohoku University) receives the Urey Award, recognizing outstanding contributions advancing geochemistry over a career.

bulletBo Thamdrup (University of Southern Denmark) receives the Heinz Lowenstam Science Innovation Award recognizing mid-career scientists for important and innovative breakthrough in geochemistry.

bulletJulie Prytulak (Imperial College London) receives the Houtermans Award recognizing exceptional contributions to geochemistry by scientists within 12 years from the start of PhD.

bulletShuhei Ono (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) receives the GS/EAG Paul Gast Lectureship.

Photo Contest 'Wonders of Geochemistry' now open!

If you are passionate about geochemistry and have taken photos that capture the ‘Wonders of Geochemistry’, enter our photo contest! Everyone is allowed to participate and you can submit up to 3 photos.

Authors of the top 3 winning photos will receive a complimentary 5-year EAG membership (worth €100), publication of their photos on the EAG website, newsletter banners and in Elements EAG pages. The photos will also be printed as post cards and available for distribution at Goldschmidt2017.

Students and friends of the late Robert Berner have worked to establish an annual lecture at the Goldschmidt Conference to commemorate his intellectual legacy in geochemistry. The 'Berner' committee is now proud to announce the first recipient of the Robert Berner Lecture: Joshua West from University of Southern California. Read more

In addition to co-organising several sessions at EGU General Assembly 2017 (Vienna, 23-28 April), EAG co-sponsors the pre-EGU short course Petrochronology: Methods and applications (22-23 April, Vienna) and provides support for 10 students, by reducing registration fees to 25 Euros. Apply for support by 3 February.

SGA2017: Call for abstracts open

The 14th Biennial SGA Meeting, "Mineral Resources to Discover", will be held in Québec City, Canada, 20-23 August 2017. The Organizing Committee has crafted an outstanding scientific program. We invite you to submit a Conference Paper (extended abstract) for one of the symposia or special sessions by 28 February. Registration to the meeting, field trips, and short courses is also open. EAG members benefit from reduced rate.
