Goldschmidt conferences

Thank you for attending Goldschmidt2013

Thank you for attending Goldschmidt2013

We would like to thank the 4100 attendees of the 23rd Goldschmidt conference. We hope everyone had a successful week and an enjoyable time in the beautiful city of Florence. EAG leads the organization of the European Goldschmidt conferences to support the geochemical community and promote its recognition by a wider audience. A detailed report of the conference will be available later. In the meantime, we invite you to help us improve Goldschmidt conferences by sending your feedback in the 10 Question Delegates Survey.

Goldschmidt2014 (8-13 June), led by the Geochemical Society, promises to be another exciting meeting and we hope you will be able to join us in California next year.

EAG Blogosphere at Goldschmidt2013

We are extrememy grateful to our team of bloggers at Goldschmidt2013: Andy Bray, Matt Herod, Betsy Swanner, Emma Versteegh and Simon Redfern have shared their impressions of the conference in 16 posts on the EAG Blog! So if you missed the conference or if you just curious to read their stories, you can find them at blog.eag.eu.com/category/goldschmidt2013/.

We are always looking for more motivated bloggers so should you be interested in sharing your geochemistry related stories on the EAG Blog, just contact the EAG Office.

Wine tasting results

Wine tasting results

If you participated in the blind wine tasting event on the last day of the conference at the EAG and Geochemical Society booths, you may be curious to know that the Californian wines received slightly more votes than the Italian wines (all the details can be found here). In the same spirit, next year's beer contest (California vs. Czech Pilsner) will pass on the torch to Goldschmidt2015 but we might need bigger glasses then...

Time to recognize deserving scientists

Time to recognize deserving scientists

If you know of scientists who merit recognition, please take a few minutes to nominate them for an EAG Award or for the EAG-GS Fellowship. The process is simple and the different awards recognize scientists at various stages of their career:

  • Houtermans Award for scientists under 35 or within 6 years of their PhD
  • Science Innovation Award (named after Samuel Epstein for his work in isotope geochemistry) for scientists between 35 and 55
  • Urey Award, recognizing scientific excellence over a career
  • EAG-GS Geochemical Fellowship, recognizing scientists who have made major contributions to the field of geochemistry.

Please send your nomination before 15 October for EAG-GS Fellows and before 15 November for all other awards.

Thinking of organizing a short course in 2014?

Thinking of organizing a short course in 2014?

We would like to remind you that EAG members can request sponsorship for students attending short courses in Europe. So if your institution would like to organize a short course focusing on special topics or techniques from the broad field of geochemistry, EAG could sponsor students attending the course, up to 200 Euros per student. For information, visit www.eag.eu.com/education/shortcourse/ or contact the EAG Office.
