Christian France-Lanord, CRPG – CNRS-Université de Lorraine (France), for his work on the evolution of the Earth’s climate through geological time and in particular the mechanisms by which mountain ranges consume CO2 from the atmosphere and cool down the planet. He managed to study both the current day erosion of the Himalayan Tibetan plateau and the sediments accumulated in the Bengal fan by developing of new isotopic tools. He trained a large number of students and formed some of the most talented geochemists of the youngest generation.
